Established in the year 1962 by the great philanthropist and industrialist, Shri. Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, Thiagarajar School of Management (TSM) began with the aim to impart professional education to managers who had a burning desire to scale up their career potential with better managerial skills.
The institute began an ‘Executive Development Program’ with the purpose of enabling managers and entrepreneurs in Madurai and nearby areas to hone their skills and make them more efficient and productive.
The EDP was a roaring success, with profuse accolades pouring in from the industry; this provided the requisite stimulus to launch the MBA course in 1972, as a part-time program. The full-time MBA program was introduced in 1986 and quickly became very popular among aspiring managers.
Today the institute offers MBA and PGDM programs which are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. The UGC and Madurai Kamaraj University have conferred the status of autonomous in 2011. Students can apply for admission to TSM by taking Management exams CAT, MAT, XAT, or TANCET. There is no capitation fee, and the entire fee structure is uniform and transparent.
Thiagarajar School of Management known for its legacy is one among the top hundred B schools as per the NIRF Ranking declared by the Ministry of HRD Pan India and one of the Best B Schools of Tamil Nadu and the only Best B school in the Southern part of Tamil Nadu. TSM sustains to hold its Rank for the yesteryears consistently among the 6500 Colleges offering MBA programmes in India.
TSM strives hard to be popular among the Management aspirants in Pan India and offers two programmes Post Graduate Diploma in Management ( PGDM) and Master of Business Administration ( MBA). PGDM is the flagship programme of the Institute and is certified by the Association of Indian Universities mentioning that our DIPLOMA is equal to a two year DEGREE Programme.
At TSM, the admission is purely on a merit basis and very rigorous. Strictly no recommendations or donations based admissions are encouraged. Graduates in any stream/programme recognized by the UGC are eligible to apply. The selection criteria weightage is as follows:
TSM uses CAT/MAT/XAT/GMAT/CMAT to shortlist the candidates for the two year full time residential Post Graduate Programmes in Management. The IIMs /XLRI or any other agencies play no role either in the TSM admission process or in the actual conduct of TSM Programmes. Selection will be inter alis, based on Pan India entrance score, previous academic performance, the performance in Group Discussion, Personal Interview and Written Ability Test ( WAT). Base on the ranking order, merit based admissions are offered to the shortlisted candidates.
The fee quoted by the Institute includes the two full year tuition fee, hostel rent, mess charges, study material, overseas study tour( PGDM) and all other miscellaneous expenses (MBA). Merit based scholarships are offered to candidates with outstanding performance in the entire admission process in the PGDM Programme. The Educational Loan process can be facilitated by the Institution on the request of the candidate. The Institute has a tie-up with the Bank of Baroda.

The selection criteria weightage is as follows:
Merit based scholarships will be offered to candidates with outstanding performance in the entire admission process for PGDM Programme.
Candidates will be shortlisted for GD-PI-WAT(Written Ability Test) based on the admission test scores, prior academic performance and relevant work experience. At the time of the Personal Interview, written, verbal and analytical abilities of the candidates would also be examined. The final selection of candidates for admission will be based on composite factors such as admission test scores, previous academic record, relevant work experience and performance in the personal interview, Group Discussion and WAT.
Merit-based scholarships will be offered to a limited number of candidates with outstanding performance in the entire selection process.
